Well, we're technically out of the "first wave" of storm.. just waiting it out until this "Main Event" happens. And yes, thats now what they're calling the later portion of this storm.
I just heard that the National Guard have been activated, Chicago Public Schools are closed for the first time in 12 years, city garbage trucks have been fitted with plows and the Chicago Fire Department have been equiped with snowmobiles. Snowmobiles? Really? I don't know that I've ever seen a snowmobile in Illinois, yet alone in the Chicago city limits.
Here is a glimpse of our street at 5:30 tonight.
Granted, the darkness makes it a little hard to see, but there isn't too much difference in terms of snowfall from the last few hours. Severe blowing and drifting for sure though.
