I'm disclaimer'ing this right now - I'm not a doctor and I'm not providing medical advice. If you have neck pains, you should go see a doctor. Now that we have that out of the way...
One of the most frustrating sore spots for me places is the neck. Sitting at a computer most of the day is bad enough, but as my body acclimates to the new workout routine, it seems the ol' neck puts in more than its fair share of work without getting much love in return.
I was browsing some on Breaking Muscle the other day, with one hand massaging the side of my neck and the other scrolling through the articles, and happened upon a very timely headline. "5 Simple Exercises to Eliminate Neck Pain" - the scrolling came to a halt, and of course I clicked in and wow, am I glad I did!
Not only did I read the ENTIRE article (I'm a notorious article skimmer) and watch the video, but tried all five exercises IMMEDIATELY, re-watching the video for proper cues on movement. That was three nights ago. I've done the five exercise series every night before bed, but have mixed in one or two individual exercises as I feel my neck tighten up during the day. And my neck hasn't been sore, tight, or bothersome since then.
Now, I'm not saying this is a "cure" for neck pain, but I'm definitely excited about how these simple actions have helped keep me loose and limber. Give them a try, and let me know if they they work for you too (I hope they do!) or what you do to keep from tensing up!
